New Year's Resolutions

As we are at the dawn of 2012, it's time for the obligatory New Year's Resolutions post!

Being in recovery has given me a lot of time to sit down and think about my goals for the upcoming year, as well as how I will achieve them. I even took the time to designate one of my old school binders as a 2012 book, where I wrote down my goals and how I will attain them, set aside two sections for a spending and savings record, as well as a journal to chronicle my thoughts and goal progress over the coming year.

Here is my list of New Year's Resolutions:

1. Get straight A's

I am in my final semster of college, and I am determined to go out with a bang. To accomplish this, I've decided to set aside at least an hour per subject per day for study. I will also take better notes in class, which I will rewrite when I get home to seal the information into my mind.

2. Quit smoking

I have been battling with smoking since I was seventeen years old. I have quit a number of times, yet haven't been able to stick to it. I've decided that this is the year that I will be completely smoke free. When I go to the doctor tomorrow I am going to discuss my options with my doctor.

3. Exercise more

I already get enough exercise in the shop I work at, but I want to develop an exercise regimine that I will stick to, somthing fun that will make me want to stick to it. I will be starting small, by walking around my neighborhood for at least thirty minutes each evening. From there, I don't know. I may decide to join a gym!

4. Pay off all debt

This is actually a small item, considering the only real debt I have is going to be from the hospital escapade on New Year's Eve. For me, this will be an easy task, hence why I've added it to this list. This way, if I fail to accomplish my other resolutions, at least I will have this one done!

5. Write more letters

For me, there is nothing more magical than getting a letter or post card in the mail. I have a few friends that I wrote to frequently, but with the rise of online social networking it seems the letter or post card has been blown aside for quick wall posts or emails. I think it's time for me to go back to writing more letters. I love the way a pen presses into paper, and the feeling of the letter in my hands. I love coming home and finding out that I got mail that isn't a piece of junk or a bill. It really feels good.

6. Give blog a face lift

I've had this layout since last February. It still feels like me, but I want something that is more fresh. I've slowly been adding new features, and I want a new layout that speaks of this transition I've been making.

I'd also like to have more varied posts. In my goals journal, I've started listing various topics that I am going to approach in the upcoming weeks. Some I can't wait to get started on! If there is anything that you'd like to see, don't hesitate to leave a comment or send me an email!

My list is a bit longer than last year's. The big difference is this list seems to be something that I have a hope and a dream of accomplishing.

What are your goals? Do you have a list you make every year, or do you just not bother with resolutions?

Here is to a fantastic 2012, and may we all achieve our goals!
