Review: Maple Holistics Argan Oil Shampoo

I'm back with another shampoo review!

I've tried the Tea Tree Shampoo a few months ago, and this time I had the chance to try the Argan oil shampoo from Maple Holistics.

It's hypoallergenic, sulfate free, paraben free, cruelty free, and vegan friendly - all around goodness!

Just like the tea tree oil shampoo, I was very impressed with this shampoo.

First off, let's cover ingredients. Here's the list if you can't read them from the image.
Aqua, Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Sodium Lauroamphoacetate, Sodium Methyl Cocoyl Taurate, Sodium Lauryl Clucoside Carboxylate, Lauryl Glucoside, Sodium Cocoyl Glutamate, Arcylates Copolymer, Coco-Glucoside, Glyceryl Caprylate, Glycerin, Sodium PCA, D-Panthenol, Argania spinosa (argan) oil, Botanical Keratin, Prunus persica (Peach Kernel) oil, Prunus dulcis (Almond) oil, Simmondsia chinensis (Jojoba) oil, Camellia sinensis (Camelia seed) oil, Natural (Vanilla/Honey) fragrance, Persea americana (avocado) oil
The oils are the main draw for me:

  • argan oil
  • jojoba oil
  • almond oil
  • peach kernel oil
  • camellia seed oil
  • avocado oil

I've used almost all of those in different ways by themselves. Camellia seed oil is one of my favorites when it comes to taking care of my skin. It's said to be a beauty secret of the geisha! I also adore jojoba for loads of different purposes. Avocado is chock full of vitamins. Each of the oils really has their own fantastic purpose, and put together they work in harmony to treat your hair and scalp like royalty.

The first thing I noticed was the scent. It's got an almost nutty scent with an underlying sweetness .The ingredients list a natural vanilla/honey fragrance, but the thing that stood out to me the most was almond versus vanilla and honey.

The second thing I was super pleased with was the lather. Again, the ingredients don't seem to be something that should lather like most shampoo, but this does. Most natural shampoos I've ever used have had terrible lathers, especially sulfate free shampoos since sodium lauryl sulfate is what makes shampoo get nice and sudsy. (It's terrible for your hair, btw.)

The shampoo is super rich and made my scalp feel absolutely amazing.

This picture honestly doesn't do it justice - it's really pretty!
It's also different than most shampoos in how it's used. The instructions say to massage throughout scalp and allow to absorb for two to three minutes for therapeutic benefits. Rinse and repeat.

I could tell a difference after my first use. My hair was much easier to manage versus using my typical shampoo (Pantene Beautiful Lengths shampoo) even wet. Normally my wet hair is an epic nightmare of knots before I start to tame it. My scalp also felt quite moisturized from the various oils. Sometimes shampoo makes your hair feel squeaky after rinsing. This one doesn't! It was strange at first since my brain has been hardwired since childhood to think that squeaky equals clean.

As with the tea tree shampoo, you will need a conditioner to pair with this for optimal results. I used several different conditioners and achieved slightly different results. The first one I used was the Etude House Silk Scarf treatment, which is almost like Three Minute Miracle and used in shower. The second one I used was Suave Infusions Keratin Infusions leave in conditioner and I think it worked better than the Etude House (and it's less than half the price!). I think maybe the keratin in the shampoo worked with the keratin in the conditioner? Maybe I'm reading too much into it 😂 I just know it was a great combination and gave me a super great hair day.

I did notice my hair stayed fresh looking longer - I only wash my hair maybe three times a week at most to avoid stripping it of natural oils. I usually can get to day three and my hair is a total mess - oily scalp and dry ends. Using this product I made it to day three and didn't experience the same oiliness at the scalp as I would ordinarily. This shampoo definitely works if you're trying to keep your natural oils as intact as possible.

I'd safely say that this is a good bet for all hair types, given that I have oily hair and it worked wonders for me, but I can only imagine the benefits it would have to dryer hair types! Imagine what it could do for curls!

I say this shampoo is a total toot!

I received this product complimentary for review purposes, but all thoughts are my own. This is just a darn good shampoo!

I was also looking through their blog and read a post about dermarolling. Even among a lot of the people I follow on Instagram it seems to be all the rage. It is supposed to help repair the skin and help rebuild collagen. The article is full of great information and is making me even consider, even though the idea kinda scares me (because I'm a massive sissy when it comes to any needles, even micro-needles!).

Have you tried any good shampoos lately? What about dermarolling? Spill the t!
