One of my favorite things about myself is my hair. I've always put a little more care into taking care of it versus other things in my life, and it's always shown for it. Vitamins, oils, shampoos, treatments, I've tried it all.
The most recent thing I've tried is the Tea Tree Oil shampoo from Maple Holistics.
I've used tea tree oil for years for a million different things - it's a crazy versatile thing. This shampoo has a plethora of benefits, from healing the scalp to preventing hair loss. I'm starting to lose my lush pregnancy hair so something to stop it definitely catches my attention! It also has the potential to naturally eradicate lice, perfect if you've got school age children in your home like I do. Those little suckers plagued us for years and tea tree oil was our main defense, but that's a story for another day.
The ingredients are fairly simple, full of oils that have great many benefits. Lavender is another one that I love in particular, since it's got antibacterial properties much like the tea tree oil. Rosemary oil is also an antibacterial! Paired with the Argan and Jojoba (great moisturizers), it's a complete treat for natural scalp health. I love, love, love jojoba oil, especially for my cuticles!
Scent wise, it's distinctively tea tree. I suppose it can be a bit overbearing if you're sensitive to smells, but that is something that comes along with the territory when using a product that has tea tree oil in it. It's going to have a strong scent. That being said, it's not bad. I really liked it. It brought me back to childhood hanging out at my aunt and uncle's house - they were big fans of essential oils.
I like that it is sulfate free. Sulfates in shampoos are what typically will irritate and strip your natural oils. From my experience sulfate free shampoo doesn't lather well. This one does! As dumb as it sounds, the lather is one of my favorite parts of washing my hair, and it makes me feel like I'm actually cleaning my hair. Shampoos that don't lather kinda kill the experience for me. I was pleasantly surprised to have a nice amount of bubbles.
The directions say to leave it on for three to five minutes to reap full therapeutic benefits. After the first couple of minutes it almost felt like my scalp was cooling, a sensation that carried on even after I washed it out.
You will need a conditioner after using this shampoo. It left my hair feeling very clean, almost squeaky, so I finished off with my Etude House Silky Perfumed Treatment and went about my shower.
The first time I used it I didn't use the blow dryer. My hair still held the scent hours later and felt silky soft. My scalp didn't itch like it normally does as the weather changes and dries.
